Artist Statement
I am a tap dancer, percussionist, choreographer, and teacher. Although I enjoy many styles of music, I am a jazz music enthusiast. I find that jazz music is the best medium for me to express my emotions and to communicate with others. Many people profess to use dance as a means of communication, but for me, this is an authentic statement as tap dancing has made it possible for me to overcome being introverted and to become part of a group of artists who consider themselves family, “tap fam”.
Some of the pieces I choreograph are to tell a story, some to reinforce the history of tap dance, and some to share my innermost thoughts and feelings. “On a Clear Day” has become my theme song, it’s a reminder that no matter what may be happening, there will soon be a better, brighter day. There are a multitude of variations and covers of this song, my favorite is an arrangement I collaborated on with a seven-piece orchestra for a special performance in February of 2022.
My vision for my future is to continue to develop a body of work that will be a movement journal of my life experiences. I am becoming proficient with music and video editing so that I can record and share my work with others and hopefully affect them in a positive way.

About

Jack Scarlett is a dynamic tap dancer, educator, and choreographer whose artistry and energy keep him
in constant motion. Based in the Tampa Bay area, Jack travels throughout the U.S. teaching at dance
conventions, adjudicating at competitions, and inspiring students of all ages with his innovative
approach to rhythm and performance.
A sought-after performer, Jack appears with ESP for corporate and community events and is featured
with Broadway On The Bay and Spinning Canvas. He is a founding member of Mosaic Movement Co and
an active member of Project Rhythm, contributing to cutting-edge productions that celebrate
movement and musicality.
Jack regularly teaches at studios throughout the Tampa Bay region and choreographs original work for
performing and competition teams. Beyond his studio commitments, he teaches master classes and
summer intensives, helping dancers refine technique, deepen musical understanding, and grow as
artists and individuals.
In addition to teaching and choreographing, Jack continues to train with top industry professionals and appears in music and content videos, bringing his unique style and contagious passion for dance to
broader audiences.
When Jack was a Boston-based dancer, teacher, and choreographer, his performance credits included
DrumatiX, FutureSTEP, Jam Youth Project, and the New Jersey Tap Ensemble’s NJTap2. He served as a
featured performer and Dance Captain for LEGOLAND New York’s stage shows. A personal highlight includes performing in the Berklee College of Music Honorary Doctorate Concert for Usher and appearing with him in the closing number, featured in People magazine.
Jack began dancing at his mother’s studio in St. Augustine at the age of 11, where he immediately discovered a passion for tap dance. Throughout his competitive career, he earned numerous top-level adjudications, along with regional and national titles and scholarships, and became known for his fast-paced solos and show-stopping technique. He is consistently recognized for his strong stage presence and genuine love of entertaining.
Jack has trained with many of the tap world’s most respected artists, including Derick Grant, Anthony
Morigerato, Aaron Parkhurst, Jason Janas, Jason E. Bernard, Aaron Tolson, Sarah Reich, Dianne Walker, and Hilary-Marie. Prior to beginning his professional career, he assisted at major dance conventions such as Adrenaline, Revive, NYCDA, LA Dance Magic, Nuvo, and Radix. He has also served as an assistant for Sarah Reich’s Tap Music Project.
His choreographic work includes collaborating with a seven-piece band to create a tap dance focused
arrangement of Oscar Peterson’s “On A Clear Day” for Tapped In at the Berklee Performance Center, as
well as choreographing, directing, and producing short indie films. Some of his favorite projects include
work for Berklee College of Music’s Night and Day: A Celebration of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga and Rhythm Unbound for Boston Conservatory’s Happy Feet, a tap dance celebration spanning multiple music genres. Jack also choreographs for private event productions and community events.
